A small window of opportunity

Case Study : MTN Swaziland How to quickly reduce congestion and create more capacity without costly upgrades
A small window of opportunity
There is no doubt that 3G services are putting a lot of pressure on mobile networks. Operators in Western countries are struggling to manage escalating congestion due to increased data traffic from smart devices. Some mobile operators have even stopped selling smart devices (such as the iPhone) temporarily in order to stabilize the flow of traffic across their networks.

Meanwhile, operators in developing countries (such as India, China and Nigeria) are still dealing with a lot of 2G traffic, which is also forecasted to maintain a steep growth pattern. Even with lower mobile penetration rates and larger, more wide-spread population, these operators must nevertheless deliver the best quality of service and accommodate all their subscribers comfortably. Their primary concern is to safeguard existing service revenues, but they also have a small window of opportunity to enhance their network capabilities in order to prevent customer churn, attract new business and manage rising OPEX costs. It is a window that must not be missed by operators as network performance and quality of service can be the difference between gaining or losing a few critical points in market share. This balance of service against OPEX can be achieved by implementing a field-proven, rugged optimization solution, bringing immediate benefits to voice and data services without costly forklift upgrades or brute-force provisioning of bandwidth.
