Today’s Capacity and Service Requirements
Recent roll-outs of premium grade mobile services such as mobile TV, high speed Internet and video have brought bandwidth requirements at the Radio Access Network (RAN) to another level of magnitude, resulting in more congestion issues and greater requirements for E1 capacity. This is a critical issue since backhaul remains one of the most expensive parts of the wireless business. Moreover, capacity is often scarce in many networks, limiting sustainability of existing services and the launch of new ones. In some cases, additional capacity through infrastructure upgrades is not even possible due to spectrum limitations imposed by regulators, or simply due to lack of availability–case of leased lines or satellite backhaul.

A new paradigm of ease of deployment/performance/ubiquity
While Optimization and Compression are commonly acknowledged as crucial solutions for alleviating those bandwidth issues, the proprietary nature of the Abis interface and the related sensitivity of the different radios utilized have often delayed the field deployment of Optimization and Compression solutions thereby incurring revenue loss to Mobile Operators. The latter are also looking to an all-IP evolution path and do not want to make investments for a short term benefit.
AbisXpress addresses these issues:
- AbisXpress minimal configuration provides a unique plug-and-play deployment mode. As it operates on the transmission level, AbisXpress is independent of the Abis structure and protocol, therefore allowing for ubiquitous total infrastructure vendor transparency.
- Its increased capacity and performance set a new standard in the industry.
- Future-proof by design, it gets revenues flowing faster, lowers Opex and keeps Capex under tight control.

Get Revenues Immediately
Complexity of deployment can delay that ROI. That’s why operators increasingly are looking for solutions based on specific criteria such as quick and easy deployment that would allow faster revenue generation and fewer constraints on the operations teams, optimization performance and integration with the operator’s network.
Future-Proof
Another issue is the flexibility and future proof evolution of such device: more and more cellular operators see their access transmission network as a major asset, which shall serve not only their current installed based Base Stations, but shall be able to carry a broad scope of services and access technologies, fix or mobile, wireline or wireless. Installing any additional equipment in the operator’s RAN is a major and strategic step which must take into account existing and future needs. Being able to federate and aggregate all new services & technologies into a single resource managed access transport network is key, as well as the ability to provide media adaptation to the different access transmission technologies available today and in the future. |

How it works: Ease of Deployment
AbisXpress is essentially a radio vendor/codec and wireless technology [GSM, UMTS, CDMA] transparent solution. Without sacrificing anything on performance side, this new Memotec product can be rapidly and easily deployed in any network. It operates in a connectionless environment, thus eliminating another layer of complexity of connection management. AbisXpress features superior optimization of resources for overall cost reduction. For instance, four remote CDMA BTSs can be served with one single DSP at the hub site. Key Memotec features such as signaling identification and priority, congestion avoidance mechanism, minimum 35% optimization across the different wireless technologies [GSM, UMTS, CDMA] , and more are maintained on the AbisXpress. |

- Radio vendor/codec transparency (FR/EFR/HR/AMR) for Satellite and microwave/leased lines networks
- Connectionless environment (plug-and-play)
- Superior resource flexibility (lower costs)
- Interoperability evolution with IP-RAN and Ethernet-based transport protocols
Existing Memotec customers already enjoying the benefits of actual Memotec GSM Abis optimization feature can also be upgraded to take advantage of the AbisXpress features
