Network Management |
Memotec offers a suite of application oriented Graphic User Interface (GUI) network element configuration ( CXTOOL) and performance monitoring ( CXMON) tools. CXTOOL enables the Operator to easily configure the CX Gateway via a few screen entries as simply as counting 1, 2, 3! With CXMON, the Operator can monitor precisely the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for each application (Abis/Ater RAN Optimization, DCME voice compression).

Three Network Management tools are available with the Memotec products: Agora, CXMON and CXTOOL.
These tools enable to easily install and modify a network element's configuration, as well as help the operator quickly troubleshoot any service affecting event happening in the network, thus saving cost and time. In addition, CXMON 's KPI monitoring function allows to precisely fine tune the transmission capacity requirements, in order to help the operator best optimize its network to the optimum capacity, and minimize OPEX.
Open interfaces for network management are based on standard SNMP protocol, which permits virtually any operation from any SNMP standard compliant 3rd party network management software tool. This feature enables easy integration in most existing Network Management System (NMS) already deployed by operator's NOC managers.
All the network element configuration, management and monitoring functions can be performed remotely, from a central Network Operation Center (NOC). |

The AGORA NG Network Management Platform is a carrier grade solution allowing superior management
of nodes and objects corresponding to the Memotec solution deployed on operational site. Providing
SNMP and CORBA northbound interfaces, it can easily be integrated with third party NMS. Conceived
with a modular architecture, It encompasses several different functionalities for configuration and
inventory management, topology map, alarm supervision and correlation, service management and provisioning,
and performance management.

CXMON provides a high level interface for real-time monitoring and troubleshooting Abis/Ater interface links as well as Mobile/Telephony voice trunks. It displays the necessary information to effectively monitor, manage and optimize the transmission links resources. The tool can monitor multiple units concurrently, and records all the information for later off-line analysis in a standard text format.
All the pertinent information is displayed on one screen, using multiple panels. Monitoring information is grouped in an individual panel; each panel can be resized and moved creating a customized display. All key indicators are shown in permanence and statuses are provided through different colors. Subsequently, a craftsperson can pinpoint network anomalies at a glance. The application provides feedback on the following:
- CPU type, software and uptime
- Alarms monitoring, collection and display
- T1/E1 bearer interfaces information and statuses
- Graphical statistics for WAN uplinks and T1/E1 bearer voice channels traffics
- Detailed real-time information on the voice channel traffic :
- Channel usage
- Type of traffic (Signaling, Voice, Data)
- Type of voice codec (GSM Full Rate, GSM Half-Rate, Voice G.729 or G.723)
- Silence Ratio level
- Optimization ratio
CXMON operates both with:
- DCME Voice trunk applications (Telephony and GSM A/E interfaces)
- GSM RAN applications (A.bis/A.ter links)
In addition, CXMON displays a real time graphic map of the channel type allocation at the Abis and Ater interface.
With CXMON, the Operator can monitor precisely the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for each application (Abis/Ater RAN Optimization, DCME voice compression). CXMON helps the Operator precisely fine tune the transmission capacity requirements, thus resulting in the best network optimization, optimum transmission capacity, and minimum OPEX.

Using CXMON as an Abis/Ater link or voice trunk probe
In order to maximize Memotec's RAN Optimizer efficiency and control the quality of the service being delivered through the RAN, it is essential for the GSM Operator and the Service Provider to know and understand the nature of the traffic going through each Abis or Ater interface.
CXMON acts as a virtual software probe, embedded in the Memotec's CX device which enables the operator to monitor precisely each Abis or Ater interface with real time graphic visualization of the different traffic being forwarded (signaling, voice, data), graphical display of the Abis/Ater interface dynamic traffic map, and analyze the performances of the Memotec's RAN Optimizer through a series of Key Performance indicator (KPIs) and a comprehensive list of detailed statistic counters.
The same consideration applies for DCME applications at the A or E interface, or for Telephony voice trunks.
As a result, CXMON allows the GSM operator to control the quality of service delivered over the backhaul network, troubleshoot service issues, and fine tune the network efficiency for optimal cost effective utilization. |

The Memotec CX Gateways are easily deployed and configured using CXTOOL, Memotec's new Windows-based configuration tool specifically designed to configure Memotec's CX Gateway family of products.
A centralized Graphical User Interface (GUI) network Element Management System (EMS) that provides intuitive provisioning & maintenance operations, CXTOOL configures each device with information entered in a series of dialog boxes, offering choices of parameters, ranges, etc. It allows for complete network configurations to be developed quickly and easily. The multi -panel displays all the protocols and features via a single window pane. Users have easy and unrestricted movement between the numerous configuration levels while providing all the necessary information on one screen.

Configuring Memotec devices has never before been simpler than with the use of CXTOOL Application-Oriented Graphic User Interface (AO-GUI). Once the CX Gateway hardware configuration and basic system parameters have been entered, using CXTOOL online hardware detection of the I/O card, configuring the equipment for a given application (Abis/Ater RAN Optimizer or DCME) is done by simply going through just three screens entry. Basically, the operator just need to select parameters from drop down lists and fill in dialog boxes with required information. The process is as simple as counting 1, 2, 3:
- Configure the bearer ports (Abis/Ater trunks, Voice trunks)
- Configure the bearer port channels
- Configure the WAN interface.

CXTOOL guides the operator at every step of the device configuration, providing a rich embedded on-line contextual help, which is just a mouse click away. If the an error is made at any stage of the configuration process, the Operator will be informed either immediately or, at the latest, before the configuration is completed. The guided configuration leads the users through a series of steps viewing only the appropriate ranges of values and prompting to related parameters or linked modules. High-level application templates streamline the configuration process by requiring only key elements to be entered The operator has also the choice of accepting predefined defaults or entering his own values in all the required fields. He can also create customized configuration templates for further re-use in sub-sequent configurations.
The uploading of current configuration file and the tracking of configuration file history simplify the maintenance, recovery and configuration management tasks. An automated tool to migrate existing configuration to new firmware revision level and equipment hardware revision facilitates upgrades and minimizes risk Finally, Memotec's Network Element Management solution is completed by an array of tools delivering network status and performance monitoring information, SNMP alarms trap, network element supervision and dash-board functions, allowing rapid troubleshooting of network problems. |
