Overcoming Network Congestion Issues
Recent roll-outs of premium grade mobile services such as mobile TV, high speed Internet and video have brought bandwidth requirements at the Mobile Radio Access Network (RAN) to another level of magnitude. We see more congestion issues and greater requirements for E1 capacity. This is a critical issue since backhaul remains one of the most expensive parts of the wireless business. Moreover, capacity is often scarce in many networks, limiting sustainability of existing services and the launch of new ones. In some cases, additional capacity through infrastructure upgrades is not even possible due to spectrum limitations imposed by regulators, or simply due to lack of availability–case of leased lines or satellite backhaul.
